As a rough guide you may find the following useful:

RD means rear derailleur; FD means front derailleur. The numbers refer to when they were produced and if it also has a name then it means it is part of a series.

In mountain biking the quality (and price) go as follows (bottom to top):

Tourney, Acera/Alivio, Deore, LX, XT, and XTR

In road biking the hierarchy is as follows:

Sora, Tiagra, 105, Ultegra, Dura Ace.

The latest and top of the range series is Zee.
